Dermal Fillers: The Solution for Sunken Areas and Face Contour

As we age, our face naturally loses volume, leading to sunken cheeks, deep smile lines, and a loss of facial definition. Dermal fillers offer a safe, non-surgical solution to instantly replenish this lost volume and lift your natural contours.

Dr. Cici Nguyen believes in the art of subtle rejuvenation. By carefully analyzing your unique facial proportions, she uses fillers to erase tired or severe features. Her goal is to refresh your appearance gradually, giving you a youthful radiance without ever looking "overdone."

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are cosmetic treatments designed to restore lost volume, smooth out deep wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.

As one of the most popular injectable treatments, fillers deliver immediate results without the need for surgery. Unlike Botox, which relaxes muscles, fillers work by adding volume and shaping. They are particularly effective for plumping lips, lifting cheeks, defining the jawline, and softening nasolabial folds (smile lines).

This treatment requires no downtime, allowing you to see noticeable improvements instantly. Depending on the type of filler used and individual metabolism, effects typically last from 12 to 18 months (and sometimes up to 24 months).

Dermal Fillers Explained

The majority of premium dermal fillers available today are made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA) — a naturally occurring substance in the human body that helps keep the skin hydrated, plump, and elastic.

When injected beneath the skin, HA fillers act like tiny sponges, attracting water and restoring volume to sunken, volume-deficient, or wrinkled areas. Thanks to their high biocompatibility, HA fillers provide a harmonious, soft, and natural appearance. Furthermore, they are fully reversible and can be safely dissolved using a enzyme called Hyaluronidase if necessary.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers offer a comprehensive aesthetic solution with numerous standout benefits:

  • Lip Enhancement: Plumping lips, defining the borders, and improving facial symmetry.
  • Cheek Lifting: Restoring cheek projection for a youthful, lifted appearance.
  • Jawline & Chin Sculpting: Creating a sharp, defined jawline and correcting a recessed chin for a balanced profile.
  • Smoothing Nasolabial Folds: Filling in deep smile lines and creases around the mouth.

How do Dermal Fillers work?

Dermal fillers are injected precisely into various layers of the skin (or right above the bone) depending on the targeted treatment area. Unlike Botox, which targets muscle activity, fillers alter the structural volume of the face.

Filler treatments are highly customizable. The practitioner will select the appropriate filler consistency (thickness) based on the specific aesthetic goal:

  • Soft Fillers: Ideal for areas requiring flexibility and natural, soft movement, such as the lips area.
  • Medium Fillers: Ideal for smoothing out nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or static wrinkles.
  • Hard/Structured Fillers: Placed deeply near the bone to rebuild facial structure, used for cheek lifting or chin and jawline contouring.

This approach allows the practitioner to sculpt your face according to the Golden Ratio, perfectly correcting any asymmetry and restoring a refreshed look.

Dermal Filler Aftercare

To ensure the best possible results and minimize any temporary swelling or bruising, we recommend following these post-treatment guidelines:

  • Avoid Pressure on the Area: Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for at least 24 hours to prevent the filler from shifting.
  • Stay Upright: Avoid lying for the first 4 hours immediately following your treatment.
  •
  • No Strenuous Exercise: Pause heavy workouts or vigorous physical activities for the first 24 hours.
  • Limit Alcohol and Sodium: Refrain from consuming alcohol and high-sodium foods for 24 hours to reduce the risk of excessive swelling and bruising.
  • Ice Gently: If you experience mild swelling, you may apply a cold compress gently to the area for short intervals on the first 24 hours (do not press firmly).

Note: Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site is normal and usually subsides within a few days. Final, settled results are typically visible within 2 weeks.
